In the wake of these economic times, countless people are wondering how to save money on shoes.  Whether you view shoes as just a necessity or you feel as though you can never own too many designer pairs, there are many ways you can save money on your next pair.  Keeping more of your money in your hands has never been more important until now.  The following steps can help you maximize your savings.

When to find the Best Deals

Buying shoes when they’re off season is a highly effective way to save money.  If you fall in love with a stylish but expensive strappy sandal, you’ll find that by the time the summer’s over they’ve gone down considerably in price.  Buying them at the change of seasons ensures you get the absolute best price for your purchase.  You do need to be careful that the store doesn’t run out of stock on your size, but if you’re willing to take the chance, this is a viable option.

Choosing the Right Type of Shoe

Classic styles will help you maximize your wardrobe – and your savings.  Buying a simple pair of black shoes that will compliment most of your clothing can keep you from having to buy multiple pairs.  Versatile shoes are definitely more cost effective in the long run.

Another way to save money on shoes is by buying ones whose color matches the clothes in your wardrobe.  Purple high heels marked down at 75 percent off may seem like a bargain, but not if you don’t own any outfits that will match them.  Though brown and black shoes, while conservative, can get boring after awhile.  So take a look around your closet before you shop.  If you own quite a few pastel outfits, consider beige or silver shoes to compliment them.

Watch for Sales

Online and store newsletters are an excellent way to save money on shoes.  Very often you’ll be alerted of sales before they begin.  Once you know what’s going on sale and when, you can determine what you need and buy it at the best price.  Also, many newsletters have coupons attached giving a discount off the cost of the shoes.  It’s definitely worth signing up to receive these notifications.

There’s no doubt that many people find they like to buy their shoes at dedicated shoe stores, but you’d be surprised where you can pick up a great pair for much less at another location than you’d get them at your own store.  For instance, it’s possible to find a great pair of name brand running shoes at a discount store that doesn’t normally stock them.  Or for instance, larger department stores might have a pair of walking shoes on sale that are much cheaper than if you went to a dedicated walking shoe store.  Don’t be afraid to shop around and explore the different stores around you to get the best deal.

Re-Kindle with your Old Shoes

Rather than buying new shoes, another great way to save money is to take good care of the shoes you already own.  After wearing your shoes each day, wipe them down with a soft, clean cloth.  Store your off-season shoes in containers to keep them clean, dry and ready for use when the weather changes.  Taking care of the shoes you already own will save you money in the long run; they’ll have a longer life span and you won’t have to spend money on replacing them as often.

Visit Outlet Stores

Outlet stores are a great source for discount shoes.  You can easily find a pair of stylish, comfortable shoes for much less than it would cost if you bought them for full retail price.  Many times the savings are substantial.  Outlet shops will mark down their shoes anywhere from ten to 75 to even 90 percent off.  The goal is to find an outlet store in your area the money you save isn’t wasted on gas getting to the store.

Thrift shoes offer excellent bargains on gently used shoes.  If you’re seriously short on cash, this is definitely something to consider.  If buying them from a thrift store makes you wary, you can clean your newly purchased pair with disinfectant spray and use foot powder to clean the interior.  You’d be amazed at the numerous pairs of high quality, name brand shoes that are available at many thrift stores.

Saving money on shoes means ensuring your shoes aren’t just adding to your collection.  If you aren’t going to wear them at least a few times, don’t buy them.  The idea is to get as much functionality out of your shoes as possible, thus maximizing your savings.  There are those people who enjoy buying shoes just so they can have them; that’s entirely up to them.  But if you’re interested in finding out how to save money on shoes, buying them “just because” is not a good enough reason.  Your shoes should serve a purpose.  Ideally, they should be multi-functional.  A good pair of shoes can perform as your daytime shoes as well as your nightlife shoes.  Owning pairs like these helps to increase your savings and lessen the amount you’ll pay on extraneous pairs.

In this day and age, knowing how to save money on shoes has never been more important.  These tips will help you maximize your savings.  Your shoes will last longer and you’ll be able to buy the pairs you need at greatly discounted prices.  Following the advice here will help you keep more of your money in your own hands – where it belongs. How to save money on Shoes, 9.0 out of 10 based on 1 rating

Just by switching to energy saving light bulbs i save about $20 every month or two on my electric bill. Also, only using power strips, and plugging in all your electronics on that , then turning off the power strip when not in use will also save money.
